PSSI Pressed to Investigate Alleged Liga Indonesia Match Fixing

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The chairman of Indonesian Soccer Association West Java chapter (Asprov PSSI), Tommy Apriantono, called for central PSSI to investigate an alleged match-fixing at the Liga Indonesia competition.

According to Tommy, PSSI has not responded to this suspicion; “There should be at least a response from the PSSI Chairman,” he said on Wednesday, November 28.

He maintained that Liga Indonesia must be free from such practices since it could potentially affect the public’s support toward the league. “Match-fixing does not reflect the spirit of respect and fair play,” Tommy added.

The alleged fixing is suspected to happen during the match between Persib Bandung against PSMS Medan at the Liga 1 on November 9. Persib coach Mario Gomez suspected his players were involved in the match-fixing, however, this was immediately refuted by Persib manager Umuh Muchtar.

The PSSI will conduct several meetings in the future such as an executive committee meeting that will discuss the solution in preventing any potential match-fixing happening in Liga Indonesia.
