TEMPO.CO, Yogyakarta - Heavy downpours near the Adisutjipto Airport in Yogyakarta over the last few days prompted airport authorities to anticipate possible dangers by raising alert.
Agus Pandu Purnama, General Manager of Angkasa Pura I at Adisutjipto Airport, said that weather affects flights greatly. He said weather can increase the efficiency and effectiveness of aviation safety, but also has the potentials to pose danger.
"Angkasa Pura I as the manager of Yogyakarta Adisutjipto International Airport will increase alert of aviation safety," he in Yogyakarta on Tuesday, November 27.
Among the dangers of extensive rains are a sudden change of wind direction, low vision, as well as wet, slippery runway.

"We made several efforts such as conducting routine checks and maintenance in the area of aircraft movements, in accordance with the guidelines for airport operations," said Agus Pandu.
The airport manager also conducts drainage checks and airport facilities, coordinating with Air Traffic Control (ATC) to provide information on Rubber Deposit & the presence of water puddles on the runway and conduct Aerodrome Serviceability Inspections.
The Yogyakarta Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) said that there is potential for extreme weather due to possibilities of wind formation or convergence meeting areas along Java Island.
"We have to watch out for potential inundation, floods, and landslides for those who live in areas with potentially heavy rain. Especially in areas prone to flooding and landslides," BMKG Yogyakarta's climatology station chief Agus Sudaryatno said.
