Agriculture Ministry Ensures Meat, Egg Supply Sufficient

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Director General of Livestock and Animal Health Services I Ketut Diarmita said that stocks of beef or buffalo meat, chicken meat, eggs are sufficient ahead of Christmas 2018 and New Year 2019.
"Based on calculations on demand and availability, stocks of beef or buffalo meat, chicken meat, chicken eggs are surplus. So, it's all-sufficient," said Ketut in the Agriculture Ministry building in South Jakarta on Thursday, November 22, 2018.
Ketut explained that referred to the calculation, stocks and demands of beef meat were surpluses amounted to 11,219 tons. "Local production of beef meat is amounted to 35,845 tons, while the demand is at 55,305 tons. We provide meat import at 30,679 tons to cover the minus," Ketut said.
Ketut mentioned imports of live cows would reach 18,217 tons or equal to 91,543 cattle and imports of beef or buffalo meats would be 12,462 tons or 62,623 cows.
The country, Ketut added, had also sufficient stock of chicken meat and eggs as based on the realization report of each company’s production until October 2018.
"Stocks and demands of chicken meat in 2018 are recorded at 466,445 tons with a monthly average at 38,870 tons, and so it possibly surplus at 795,071 tons per a year of 66,256 tons per month," Ketut noted.
