TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Wuling responded to the recent ASEAN New Car Assesment Program (NCAP) that crash tested one of its cars, the Wuling Confero.
According to ASEAN NCAPTechnical Lab Crash Specialist, Yahaya Ahmad, the test in November was done to a Confero that was not equipped with airbags.
“In the GIIAS 2018 in August, we were looking for cars that have not been crash-tested. We saw the Wuling Confero and purchased one and took it to Malaysia,” said Yahaya at the Vehicle Safety Course (VSC) ASEAN NCAP in Karawang, West Java.
According to the ASEAN NCAP 2012-2018 report, a number of MPVs that are sold in Indonesia have gone through various crash tests.
Popular models such as the Toyota Avanza, Daihatsu Xenia, Nissan Grand Livina and Suzuki Ertiga scored 4 stars for adult safety and 2 stars for child passengers. The Mitsubishi Xpander also scored 4 stars in the single rating test held in January 2018.
Brand Manager Wuling Motors, Dian Asmahani, representing SGMW Motor Indonesia (Wuling Motors) maintained that the Confero has already adhered to the Indonesian government’s regulations despite it wasn't equipped with airbags in its most standard model.
“The safety features include Auto Door Lock by speed, ISOFIX, safety child lock & seatbelt reminder for both the driver and co-driver,” said Dian.
When asked about retesting the company’s most sold model Wuling Confero S type L at the ASEAN NCAP, Dian answered that it would need further internal discussions.
