Jusuf Kalla Talks on Industry 4.0, Human Resource Quality

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Vice President Jusuf Kalla said that the greatest challenge in facing the inevitable industry 4.0 is the ability to improve the quality of human resources.
“With the current overpopulation, not everything can be exclusively handled by machines with its expensive costs, investments, and maintenance. That’s what makes the quality of human resources so important,” said the vice president today in the Tempo Economic Briefing at The Ritz Carlton Ballroom II in Jakarta.
Kalla argues that Indonesia’s human resources abilities still pose a problem, for example, the recent civil service (CPNS) test which saw lower than expected acceptance rate.
“Out of 4 million applicants, only 1.8 million were eligible to take the test, while only 8 percent of the 1.8 million passed. That amounted to roughly 100,000 people, when in fact we needed 200,000,” said Jusuf Kalla.
Jusuf Kalla further explained that a large gap exists between CPNS applicants in and outside the Java Island, even though the government is still trying to close that gap.
