Reasons for Garuda Indonesia to Take Over Sriwijaya Air, NAM Air

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Garuda Indonesia Group through its subsidiary Citilink Indonesia has taken over the operational management of Sriwijaya Air and NAM Air.

The Garuda Indonesia's President Director I Gusti Ngurah Askhara Danadiputra aka Ari Askhara said that this cooperation could have a positive impact, such as synergizing and expanding its market segments, network, capacity, and capability.

“This is a strategic step so that it directly helps the synergy of Garuda Indonesia Group and Sriwijaya Group in managing the market share of passenger up to 51 percent,” Ari said in Jakarta, Wednesday, November 14.

This cooperation, according to Ari, is intended to help Sriwijaya Air Group improve its operating and financial performance. “This includes helping Sriwijaya Air to fulfill their commitments or obligations to third parties, including those in the Garuda Indonesia Group environment,” he said.

The Joint Operation (KSO) conducted by Citilink Indonesia with Sriwijaya Air and NAM Air was signed on November 9. “We believe that Garuda Indonesia Group has excellent capability in managing airline business,” said Sriwijaya Air’s Managing Director, Chandra Lie.

The KSO, which is fully managed by Citilink, will immediately carry out its duties after the internal processes in each company have been completed. The cooperation can also be increased to the level of the Sriwijaya Group’s shareholding, which will be arranged later.
