TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Head of the Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD Jakarta) Edi Marsudi yet again issued criticism toward the administration currently led by Governor Anies Baswedan.
The latest criticism from him is related to Jakarta’s street side vendors management; “Many street vendors are dominating the city’s sidewalks, they are everywhere,” said Prasetio during a meeting with Jakarta’s DPRD Commission B on Monday, November 11.
The Tanah Abang fiasco was not the only case he highlighted, which Anies Baswedan is currently handling by creating a ‘skybridge’ to accommodate street vendors that previously illegally packed the market’s sidewalks.
The same is encountered around the Bundaran HI area (HI Roundabout).
Prasetio said that the street vendors that mostly sell instant coffees that pack the middle of the roundabout has not been properly managed and has caused public parks to be ruined by their activities.
He also urged the Jakarta agencies responsible for handling such issues to take firm action against naughty street vendors. “Not that I intend to harass the weaker groups, but provide them facilitate them with a place to sell their goods. The government must be present in such situation,” Prasetio maintained.
