Jokowi Holds Bilateral Meeting with Australian PM in Singapore

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko Widodo or Jokowi held a bilateral meeting with Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison, on Wednesday, November 14. The meeting took place at the Suntec Convention Center, Singapore, on the sidelines of a series of ASEAN meetings.
The Presidential Secretariat's Deputy for Protocol, Press and Media in his written broadcast stated that the two countries discussed intensively cooperation since August 2018.
“Including the implementation of the subregional meeting on counter-terrorism held in Jakarta on November 6,” said Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi.
Jokowi and Morrison also discussed the issue of increasing cooperation on interfaith dialogue to encourage better relations between the two countries. “Both also discussed interfaith dialogue, Indonesia is considered as an example for pluralism,” said Minister Retno.
Indonesia considers that a two-state solution is a right way to resolve conflicts fairly. President Jokowi hopes that Australia can help realize the peace for Palestine and Israel based on a two-state solution.
During the meeting, the Australian PM also reiterated Australia’s support for the development of the Indo-Pacific cooperation concept, which was initiated by Indonesia, by promoting ASEAN’s centrality.
“Indonesia expresses appreciation for Australia’s support for the development of the Indo-Pacific which puts ASEAN centrality in the forefront,” said Minister Retno.
During the meeting, Jokowi was accompanied by Coordinating Minister for Political, Law and Security Wiranto, Foreign Minister Retno Marsudi, and Minister of Trade Enggartiasto Lukita.
