TEMPO.CO, Waisai - The administration of Raja Ampat, West Papua, will regulate the cruise line from Waisai to the tourist destination Piaynemo. The area is the main destination for tourists when visiting the Waigeo Islands.
The Head of the Raja Ampat Transportation Agency Yohanes B. Rahawarin in Waisai, Tuesday, November 13, said his office was formulating regulation to supervise the cruise line in the Raja Ampat conservation area. “Including the Waisai cruise line to Piaynemo,” he said.
He said that the regulation is needed to control the types of boats that could enter the conservation area of the Waigeo and Fam islands. “So that the coral reefs are not damaged like the incident of British cruise ship that happened some time ago,” he said.
In formulating the regulation, the Raja Ampat administration has conducted a survey of the Waisai cruise line to Piaynemo. They have determined which areas that can be used for the cruising and which areas where tourist boats can anchor.

He said the regulatory team was visiting the communities of the Waigeo and Fam conservation areas. There, they discussed and asked for people’s opinions on the regulation.
“We are trying to complete the regulation before the end of 2018,” said Yohanes. Furthermore, the regulation will be disseminated to tourism stakeholders and will take effect in early 2019.
