TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - State-run airliner Garuda Indonesia is set to reopen its Jakarta – London route on November 15, 2018, but would almost certainly reroute it into becoming a direct flight from London to Denpasar, Bali.
“We opened the flight again after seeing the market growth, however, we will continue to review the structure cost,” said Garuda Indonesia President Director I Gusti Ngurah Askhara Danadiputra today, Nov. 10.
The structure cost he refers to would be applied by changing the fleet from Boeing 777 to Airbus 330-300. Previous Garuda Indonesia fleets were said to be costly and lacked the full payload capacity at Soekarno-Hatta airport.
Garuda closed its Jakarta-London flight route at the end of October this year after being hampered by financial losses caused by the flight’s low number of passengers that saw a full payload capacity of 60-70 percent at its best.
He explained that tourists coming from England had increased, which drove Garuda Indonesia to reroute its London flight to Denpasar, Bali. The region’s central statistics agency (BPS) recorded that British tourists ranked fourth in Bali’s foreign tourist visitors list, just behind China, Australia, and India.
