Divers Find Wrecked Lion Air JT 610 Flight Deck

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A team of divers on Wednesday, November 7 found wrecked cockpit or flight deck of Lion Air JT 610 aircraft in the sea floor of Tanjung Karawang. The finding canceled the plan to lift the front part of Boeing 737 Max 8.

“The cockpit is wrecked, only debris remains,” said Col. Isswarto, commander of the Navy SAR Task Force, in JICT, Tanjung Priok, Jakarta, Wednesday, November 7.

Earlier, a SAR joint team planned to lift the cockpit of downed Lion Air that plummetted into the waters of Tanjung Karawang last Monday. The plan was postponed considering the part had already became scattered fragments.

Isswarto recalled the finding of the airplane wing. “Similar to the previous one, we have found a wing, but it remains as debris,” he said.

Isswarto could not assure should the SAR team lift the plane cockpit. The plan to lift the cockpit was initially expected to find Voice Cockpit Recorder (VCR) of Lion Air`s black box.
