TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Metro TV's editor-in-chief Don Bosco Selamun said that the media he runs upholds the principles of objective journalism. He made the statement as a response to Prabowo Subianto's campaign spokesman remarks, Ferry Juliantono, who asked the TV station to be more objective and impartial.
"I must assert that Metro TV adheres to the principles of journalism on objectivity based on actual facts and events that truly occurred," Don Bosco told Tempo on Monday, November 5.
Don Bosco said Metro TV never and is forbidden from manipulating data, fact, events and opinions. He also said that in interviews and political talk shows, the station always brings sources and interviewees from both sides of the story to offer balanced opinions.
"Since the production planning to the taping and the airing, Metro TV's talk shows always bring guests from many parties," he remarked.
Ferry Juliantono said that the Prabowo camp hopes that Metro TV could be more objective and impartial in covering stories related to the presidential election. Ferry mentioned how Metro TV id owned by Surya Paloh, the chairman of Nasdem Party—a supporter of Joko Widodo.
The Prabowo-Sandiaga campaign team has boycotted Metro TV, citing impartiality against them. Ferry said they will not send their people to the station if they don’t make improvements.
"Our stance is aimed at making Metro TV more objective and less partial," Ferry told Tempo on Monday, November 5.
