Govt Audits Lion Air Plan to Purchase 50 Boeing 737 MAX 10s

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Lion Air is currently waiting for the Transportation Ministry’s audit on the carrier’s plan upon purchasing fifty Boeing 737 MAX 10 units by the year 2027.

“We are awaiting the Ministry’s audit, we will comply if the government requests us to reschedule our company’s plans,” said Lion Air Group Managing Director Daniel Putut at Soekarno-Hatta airport on Sunday, November 4.

Lion Air was conveyed under a special audit following the accident that involved Lion Air flight JT 610 that crashed into the Tanjung Karawang sea on Monday, October 29, which utilized Boeing’s 737 MAX 8 aircraft.

Prior to the tragic accident, Daniel said that Lion Air has repeatedly held daily meetings with Boeing representatives in Indonesia and said that there will be several notes that will be announced to the public that is based on these meetings.

“The discussions are not complete, we will conclude the points of discussion later,” said Daniel.

In April this year, Lion Air Group announced that it would purchase 50 of Boeing’s latest 737 MAX 10, which is claimed to be the most fuel-efficient single-aisle commercial aircraft, a distinctive feature that remains to be the main selling point for the industry.

Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi was personally involved with other stakeholders in a ramp check on a Lion Air PK LQM unit at Soekarno-Hatta airport today.
