Multi-National Effort Involved in Lion Air Crash Investigation

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Transportation Safety Commission (KNKT) announced that the commission will commence its identification on the recovered Lion Air wreckages after the items are officially handed over to them.
“Once it has been handed over, KNKT will immediately start the process of identifying the objects,” said KNKT head of flight sub-committee Nurcahyo Utomo at the KNKT headquarters in Jakarta on Sunday.
Moreover, KNKT will not work alone upon identifying the objects. Nurcahyo stated that his agency will work in conjunction with representatives from Boeing, General Electric, and the United States National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB).
One of the substantial findings was the recovered flight data recorder of the crashed Lion Air flight JT 610. He said that KNKT is further helped by the presence of two investigators from the Australian Transport Safety Bureau (ATSB) upon downloading the FDR’s raw data.
KNKT announced that the joint effort succeeded to download 69 hours-worth of flight data from 19 flights, which include crashed Lion Air flight JT 610. This will later be compared to the flight data of the previous day from Bali to Jakarta where technical issues were initially detected.
