TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Vice President Jusuf Kalla called for an accelerated recovery effort, namely rehabilitation and reconstruction programs, for the earthquake-stricken Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara (NTB) and the area in its vicinity.
“Local governments and other stakeholders must each be involved in a time schedule and determine a date where it could be completed,” said Jusuf Kalla as he led the NTB recovery effort coordination meeting at the NTB governor’s office on Sunday, November 4.
Furthermore, the vice president expects that NTB’s recovery efforts could be completed in March 2019, where local residents could start to occupy their houses and reduce their time living in the numerous refugee camps.
Other than health issues of prolonged living in temporary camps, Jusuf Kalla focused on the producers of the earthquake-proof houses, “The involvement of engineering students must be maximized in order to assist in the accelerated housing construction,” said the vice president.
Prior upon leading the coordination meeting, Jusuf Kalla personally monitored the construction process of residential houses at Pengempel Indah Bertais and the State-Junior High School (SMPN) 6 Mataram where he also engaged in conversation with local earthquake survivors.
