Saut said the statement in the framework of commemorating the 500-day attack on Novel. The two unidentified people poured acid water on Novel's face near his residence in Kelapa Gading, North Jakarta, on April 11, 2017. The attack took place after Novel performed the dawn prayer at the Al-Ihsan Mosque located not far from his home.

As a result, Novel Baswedan’s left eye was damaged up to 95 percent. He had to run a number of operations in Singapore to cure his eyes. More than a year the event passed, the police have not been able to capture the two perpetrators.
