TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The 70.210 billion Yen (Rp9.4 trillion) from Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to PT MRT Jakarta is set to kick-start the city’s second phase mass rapid transportation construction.
“It is the first step of the slice loan from a total loan of Rp25 trillion,” said MRT Jakarta Construction Director Silvia Halim at her office on Tuesday.
During this second phase of construction, the 8.6 track is set to be complete by the year 2024 with seven stations and one depot. The stations will be spread at Sarinah, Monas, Harmoni, Sawah Besar, Mangga Besar, Glodok, Kota, with the depot located at Kampung Bandan.
Silvia revealed that the second phase of construction poses its own challenges since the construction will pass many old buildings and the Ciliwung river. “The Kota and Harmoni MRT station will be the largest there is,” said Silvia.
PT MRT Jakarta Finance Director Tuhiyat explained that this construction will connect Bundaran HI, which is in the heart of Jakarta, to Kampung Bandan 8.6 kilometers apart.
