TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Deputy Minister of Finance Mardiasmo said that the Health Care and Social Security Agency (BPJS Kesehatan) recorded a deficit of Rp7.95 trillion as of September 2018. The figure was obtained after calculating the Rp60.57 trillion premium revenues booked and the Rp68.52 trillion claims paid.
Speaking in Jakarta on Monday, Oct. 29, Mardiasmo said that the calculation for October's deficit was not completed.
At the same location, BPJS director Fachmi Idris said the BPJS's deficit for this year was pre-calculated at Rp12.1 trillion, with a carry-over deficit from 2017, which amounted to Rp4.4 trillion.
"First we want to convey that this deficit is not something unexpected, but a planned deficit," said Fachmi.
According to Fachmi, at the start of 2018, the BPJS made a work plan. It listed an assumption that there would be a deficit of Rp12.1 trillion at the end of 2018, "plus a carry-over from 2017 of Rp4.4 trillion".
