Artists from Six States to Perform at Malay Art Feast

TEMPO.CO, JakartaA number of artists from six countries namely Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Brunei Darussalam and the host Indonesia will perform at the Malay Arts Feast in Batam from November 1 to 3.

"They will display various arts from their regions, dominated by dances. A poetry reading performance from Brunei Darussalam will also enliven the feast," acting chief of Batam City Tourism and Culture Office, Ardiwinata said on Saturday.

The Malay Arts Feast is an annual tourism and cultural agenda held by the Batam City Government to showcase various Malay-style arts and cultures. The event is also included in the national tourism agenda calendar every year.

According to him, the Malay Art Feast this year, held in three consecutive nights at the Engku Putri hall, and is open to the public, free of charge.

During the day, the Malay Art Feast was also filled with bazaars from the handicrafts of the people and various special foods for souvenirs.

Ardiwinata further said, this year`s implementation of the Malay Arts Feast will also be enlivened by the "gangsing" playing by 1,000 school students.

He is optimistic that the event will get a lot of attention from foreign tourists, because it has become the Ministry of Tourism`s "calendar of events" and has been promoted long years ago.
