TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President joko “Jokowi” Widodo together with Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi are set to inaugurate two new airports in West Kalimantan, the Aji Pangeran Tumenggung (APT) Pronoto Airport and Maratua Airport.
The pair is scheduled to introduce the new airports on Thursday, October 25.
Acting Head of the air transportation directorate general Pramintohadi Sukarno said that the APT Pranoto airport will replace the Temindung Airport that can no longer be developed. “We have built 10 new airports that are operable where each will take turns to be inaugurated by the president,” said Pramintohadi.
The APT Pranoto airport has a 2,250 meter X 45 meter runway with a 173 X 23 meter taxiway that is designed to serve a Boeing 737-900 ERs. While the already-operable Maratua Airport will be developed accordingly to the needs of the market and local community.
In an economic standpoint, Pramintohadi said that the presence of the airports will eventually create competition which will make commodities be more efficient and reduce commodity's price disparities and further make commodities affordable for people in Kalimantan.
