TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Jakarta administration will follow suit central government’s policy on the provincial minimum wage (UMP) 8.03 percent increase for 2019 regulated under Government’s Regulation (PP) No. 78/2015 on worker’s wage.
This means that Jakarta’s provincial government will not adhere to the requests of several workers’ union that pushed for the 2019 UMP to coincide with the standard living components (KHL).
“The survey conducted by Jakarta’s employment agency resulted in a number up to Rp3.9 million. This increase is lower compared to the PP 78/2015 of an 8.03 percent increase, this means Jakarta’s UMP next year will be Rp3.94 million,” said Andri Yansyah, Jakarta’s Employment Agency Head on Sunday, October 21.
Jakarta’s 2018 UMP is currently set at Rp3.6 million, this means that based on the PP 78/2015, the government increased workers’ minimum wage based on inflation and economic growth. Jakarta’s inflation in 2017 accumulated to 3.72 percent and economic growth was 6.22 percent.
Despite not adhering to workers’ demands, the Jakarta administration will provide a subsidy program for Jakarta labor workers, which has been in effect since last year, despite affecting a limited number of labors who are paid strictly on par with the city’s UMP.
