TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan threatened to close Old City discotheque located on Jl. Kiai Besar Barat, Tambora, West Jakarta after the National Narcotics Agency chapter of Jakarta (BNNP) along with Jakarta Metro Police raided the night entertainment spot.
“I will check the report. But, if narcotic is found on the place (Old City discotheque), the gubernatorial decree will be imposed, it may be closed,” said Anies in the City Hall, Central Jakarta, Sunday, October 21.
Anies asserted if a night entertainment venue found to be participating in illegal drugs, human trafficking, and prostitution, the place would be shut down without earlier notice and that, he added, was regulated in the Gubernatorial Decree No. 18/2018 on tourist businesses.
In Article 38 (2T), entertainment spots had duties to monitor and report when transaction and or consumption of narcotics and psychotropic drugs occurred in place.
During the raid on early Sunday, Oct 21, 52 of 156 people undergone urine test were positive for using drugs and 19 of them were female. The officer also found four ecstasy pills.
The BNNP Jakarta official Maria Sorlury said the drug owner was unknown. “It is [four ecstasy pills] allegedly thrown by a visitor who is panic to know that we come,” she explained.
Furthermore, Jakarta Tourism and Cultural Agency acting head Asiantoro said he would summon the management of Old City discotheque on Monday, from which a decision on the matter would be made.
