TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The acting director general of housing finance of the Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR), Khalawi Abdul Hamid, said he would look into the beleaguered Meikarta project and figure out whether there was any violation related to its construction.
“For Meikarta, we will check later whether there is a violation in terms of policy,” Khalawi said in Jakarta, Monday, October 22.
He added that in the future the government's body that would bear the authority to impose sanction in such a case was the regional administration.
"There is no problem in ATR (agrarian and spatial planning) issues because the letter has been delivered, what has been completed and according to the spatial plan is 84 hectares,” said Minister of Agrarian and Spatial Planning (ATR)/Head of the National Land Agency (BPN) Sofyan Djalil.

The Meikarta project is beset by an alleged bribery case related to its licensing. The case involved Bekasi Regent Neneng Hasanah Yasin and Lippo Group's director of operations, Billy Sindoro.
The Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) found evidence that Neneng and four officials of the Bekasi regency received bribes worth Rp7 billion from Billy.
The attorney of PT Mahkota Sentosa Utama, a subsidiary of PT Lippo Cikarang, Denny Indrayana, said his client as the executor of the Meikarta project had always tried meet and abide by the existing requirements and rules.
