TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister of Maritime Affairs Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said that there are many elements that need fixing in the government’s sea toll road program.
“There are shortcomings here and there, but everything is on track,” said Luhut at the Maritime Affairs headquarters on Monday, October 22.
Accroding to Luhut, a monopoly still exists within the shipping industry which eventually sees prices being set by a single individual. However, Luhut said it is important to have a competitor to further reduce the prices of goods.
Upon the reduced costs, Luhut is not able to answer its specific number however he asserts that hw intends to equalize the prices in Indonesia’s eastern part with the Java Island. “I don’t know if I could reduce it to 50 percent or not,” said Luhut.
Previously reported, Transportation Minister Budi Karya Sumadi said that he hasn’t completely dropped the possibility of an expanded route for the sea toll road program since the ministry continuously adds the number of routes that must be taken by the ships in the sea toll road program.
