TEMPO.CO, JakartaPresident Joko Widodo (Jokowi) attended the 54th anniversary of the Golongan Karya Party (Golkar) at the Jakarta International Expo, Central Jakarta, on Sunday.

"At a time when other political parties are still still in their fourth, eighth and sixth anniversaries, the Golkar Party had turned 54 years," Jokowi said in his speech during the event.

Jokowi said that at its age of 54 years old, Golkar was very mature in the political world. Golkar had many qualified figures.

"They are clearly very experienced in politics," said Jokowi.

The President said the challenges the political parties will face in the future are increasingly severe.

The main challenge is to restore the people`s trust in the political parties and political process. "Yet it will not happen if our politicians fill the public space with scorn, denounce, slander and hoax," said Jokowi.

President Jokowi reminded that it had the potential to widen the distance between the people and political parties.

Jokowi asks political parties to maintain the trust of the people.

Officials accompanying the President at the event included Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung and General Chairperson of the DPP Golkar Party Airlangga Hartarto who also served as the Minister of Industry.

In addition, General Chairwoman of the Indonesian Democratic Part of Struggle (PDI-P) Megawati Soekarno Putri, Chairman of the NasDem Party Surya Paloh, Chairman of the Hanura Party`s Board of Patrons Wiranto, National Awakening Party (PKB) Chairperson Muhaimin Iskandar, Perindo Party Chairperson Hary Tanoesoedibjo, Chairman of the National Campaign Team (TKN) of Jokowi-Ma`ruf, Erick Thohir, and Deputy Chairman of TKN Moeldoko also attended at the event.

After attending the commemoration of the Golkar Anniversary, the President planned to visit Bandung, West Java on Sunday afternoon.
