TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Indonesia National Paralympic Committee (NPC) hopes each region will have an educational and training center (PPLP) for students with disabilities to generate more skilled athletes following the country's success in the 2018 Asian Para Games.
“Only several provinces have PPLP for disabled students thus far. If each province opens the program, it will be easier to find new athletes. We can later hold a competition between PLPPs and the chosen athletes will be trained in Sports School (SKO) in Surakarta. This is our duty to build PPLP for the sake of paralympic development in Indonesia,” said Senny Marbun, the president of Indonesia NPC, on Friday, Oct 19.
According to Senny, the achievement in the Asian Para Games was attributable to various synergies, such as systematic coaching and training, completeness of the athletes' internal data, sports intelligence data of opponent athletes, and great support from the government and multiple parties.

“The synergies in this sustainable coaching must be maintained so as to preserve and boost the performance. Moreover, preparations to face the 2020 Paralympic must begin in the near future,” Senny noted.
Senny also hoped the NPC as the organization for disabled athletes could keep up and better its achievement so it could be on a par with the National Sports Committee (KONI). Therefore, the NPC can receive fund assistance earmarked by the Youth and Sports Ministry from the State Budget every year to cover coaching fees and improve its management.
In the 2018 Asian Para Games on Oct 6-13, Indonesia successfully ranked fifth with 37 golds, 47 silvers, and 51 bronzes. This is the best achievement of Indonesian para-athletes throughout the history of Asia’s multi-sports event for the disabled.
