TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - BPJS Watch Advocacy Coordinator Timboel Siregar assessed the reprimand from President Joko Widodo or Jokowi to the Health and Social Security Agency (BPJS Kesehatan) Directors as appropriate because it was indeed responsible to the President.
“This is what we have been waiting for. So far, the directors have worked without evaluation and reprimand from the president,” said Timboel, Wednesday, October 17.
According to Timboel, the performance of BPJS Kesehatan directors is considered to be less than optimal. “For example, there are receivables of Rp3.4 trillion, that’s the responsibility of the directors,” he said.
Based on BPJS Watch’s records, the number of private wage earners (PPU) from the BPJS Kesehatan was 12.7 million or the difference was 2 million from the BPJS Ketenagakerjaan that reached 14 million.

“If it is possible, raise the Private PPU participants, it can add Rp1.9 trillion,” said Timboel.
According to Timboel, the President must explain the reason the government did not raise the contribution, even though the main source of income for the institution is the contribution.
“In accordance with Presidential Regulation 82 of 2018, the contributions must be reviewed every two years, after the increase in 2016, it should also increase this year, but it did not,” he said.
Timboel assessed that the contribution rates that did not increase affected the financial performance of BPJS that was unable to finance the health services. In the end, BPJS Kesehatan finally experienced a financial deficit.
Previously, President Jokowi stressed that the BPJS Kesehatan deficit should be resolved at the ministry level. “This is the responsibility of the President Director of the BPJS [Kesehatan], not to the President,” he said at the Congress of All Indonesian Hospitals Association (Persi).
