TEMPO.CO, JakartaLaw and Human Rights Minister Yasonna Laoly, during a visit to the city of Bengkulu on Monday, sought for tightening supervision of foreigners in the region.

Minister Laoly was in Bengkulu in order to confirm the foreign supervision team (Tim Pora) at the sub-district level in Bengkulu Tengah Regency and Bengkulu City.

"The Pora team will be tasked with overseeing the movements of foreigners who come here. If immigration violations are found, strict action can be taken against them," he noted.

He remarked that the team was formed in line with the implementation of Minister of Law and Human Rights Regulation No. 50 of 2016 on the Overseas Supervision Team to realize a coordinated and comprehensive immigration towards immigrant existence and activities.

To maximize performance, members of Tim Pora comprised sub-district heads, village heads, police officers, and military officers to KUA.

"I demand supervision to be conducted professionally to minimize the illegal entry of foreign nationals into the Indonesian jurisdiction, especially Bengkulu," he noted.

Based on data from the Bengkulu Regional Office of Law and Human Rights Ministry, the number of foreigners as of September 2018 was recorded at 618 people. Some of the foreign nationals are workers, who are investing in Bengkulu.

"We need investment in terms of development, but supervision must also be tightened, especially for foreign workers, so as to not disrupt the stability of the country," Laoly concluded.

During the visit to Bengkulu this time, in addition to the Team Pora, Laoly also gave guidance to 260 CPNS Regional Offices of the Ministry of Law and Human Rights and inaugurated a women`s correctional institution (Lapas) in Limun, Bengkulu.
