TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo has monitored the public facilities in Gelora Bung Karno (GBK) Complex, Jakarta, Along with Jokowi were Jakarta Governor Anies Baswedan, Social Minister Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita, and Public Works and Housing Minister Basuki Hadimuljono. The president expected the facilities could be accessible for the disability.

After the session, Jokowi said 80 percent of the public facilities in GBK Complex was disabled friendly. “[Such as] the toilet, prayer room, sidewalk, and facilities heading to the spectator areas,” said the President today, Oct 16.

Jokowi noted the government sought to provide facilities for disabled people throughout provinces, cities, and regencies in Indonesia. He received many recommendations from Basuki and Anies in light of several flaws in the GBK Complex.

“We will fully support all public buildings, public facilities, and transportation means to provide disabled-friendly facilities,” Jokowi remarked.

Despite the law on the rights of disabled people existed, Jokowi admitted its realization in the field did not meet the government’s expectation. The government, he added, keep striving to seek ways to provide accessible facilities to disabled people.

Jokowi further pledged to invite disabled communities to Presidential Palace to share their thoughts on the provision of disabled-friendly facilities and infrastructures in all Indonesian regions.
