TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Jakarta Ombudsman head Teguh P. Nugroho said Jl. Jatibaru Raya, Tanah Abang, would be reopened this afternoon, October 15, 2018. The reopening would be followed by the soft launching of Tanah Abang Skybridge.
“Today we are starting to clean up construction materials under the skybridge and open it in the afternoon,” said Teguh via phone call. “The city's transportation agency has issued the permit to open the road.”
The Jakarta provincial government closed Jl. Jatibaru in December last year to accomodate street vendors, which sparked a public outcry. In August 2018, the road was closed due to the skybridge project.
According to Teguh, the project was based on the final report (LAHP) in which Jakarta Ombudsman noted its recommendations for the city administration, including the reopening of Jl. Jatibaru.

In the soft launching of Tanah Abang Skybridge, Teguh mentioned, a total of 100 kiosks were prepared. However, traders could not occupy the place yet. “It will be fully operational at the end of October,” he said.
Teguh revealed there were 650 registered traders around the Tanah Abang area. “A total of 446 out of 650 street vendors will be relocated to Tanah Abang Skybridge, and the rest to Tanah Abang Market Block F,” he explained.
Prior to the reopening of Jl. Jatibaru Raya, street vendors are barred from business activities on sidewalks, and the city administration pledge to take stern action against any violation. “Because Tanah Abang Skybridge is built for them,” Teguh said.
