TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The police stated the shots that hit the offices of DPR lawmakers Wenny Warrouw and Bambang Heri Purnomo were stray bullets.

National Police spokesperson Insp. Gen. Setyo Wasisto said the stray bullets that hit the lawmakers' offices allegedly came from a shooter who was training in Lapangan Tembak Senayan shooting range in Central Jakarta.

“We have coordinated with the Jakarta Police, the crime scenes have been examined, it is indicated [that the shots were] stray bullets,” said Setyo in a press room in the Nusantara III building at the Parliamentary Complex, Jakarta, Monday, Oct 15.

Setyo said he came as the head of the Indonesia Target Shooting and Hunting Association (Perbakin) of Jakarta chapter, as opposed to a member of the National Police. This case, he added, was under the investigation of the Jakarta Police.

The stray bullets passed through the glass window of Wenny Warouw’s and Bambang Heri’s offices on the 16th and 13th floors of Nusantara I building, respectively.

Setyo said the police had obtained the name of the shooter, identified only by an initial I, who was a member of Perbakin's Tangerang chapter.

Jakarta Police Criminal Unit director Sr. Comr. Nico Afinta said the suspected shooter and his weapon had been taken to the police headquarters for investigation.

“We have found the bullets and took the weapon. We will send them to the forensic laboratory tomorrow. Hopefully, we will get the results of the projectiles in the offices and the weapon owned by I. We will announce it tomorrow [Oct 16],” Nico concluded.
