“Hopefully, [they will] on their own awareness meet their obligation to serve their time,” said Setyo. He estimated hundreds of inmates had yet to return to their cells.
Sri said that until Tuesday, October 9, there were approximately 1,090 inmates from six correctional facilities in Palu who had yet to return. The number of inmates allowed to return home after the quake reached 1,425. Of the figure, 204 opted to stay in prison while 360 had returned.
Sri said the inmates were given dispensation to return to their homes to check on their families after the Palu quake.
