Police Reject Ratna Sarumpaet`s Request as City Arrest

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The investigators at the Jakarta Police General Criminal Directorate rejected the request filed by the family and legal counsel of the suspect Ratna Sarumpaet to set her as a city arrest.

“After the evaluation, the request cannot be granted,” said Head of Jakarta Police Public Relations, Senior Commissioner Argo Yuwono, at his office on Friday, October 12.

According to Argo, the investigators rejected the request because Ratna’s case was still in the investigation stage. “We have to investigate the witness. We need to cross-check the result with Bu Ratna,” he said.

Ratna’s attorney, Insank Nasrudin, said that their request was based on the consideration of Ratna's health and age. 

Ratna Sarumpaet has been detained in the Jakarta Police Detention Center since Friday, October 5. The police arrested Ratna after set her as a suspect in a hoax related to her persecution.
