TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating spokesman of the Indonesia Adil Makmur coalition Dahnil Anzar Simanjuntak thinks that Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) top brass has no courage to handle cases that involve the police institution.
Despite his pessimism, he hopes that KPK would eventually thoroughly investigate the Indonesialeaks’ investigative report of alleged evidence tampering of a bank book that allegedly incriminates police higher-up.
“From the many corruption cases, KPK leaders would suddenly have no courage if the case involves police institution,” said Dahnil today.
He recounted his experience meeting between the anti-corruption coalition with the current KPK leaders to report an alleged gratification suspected to incriminate Deputy Chief of Densus 88 anti-terror team. Dahnil said he was surprised to hear the answer given by KPK leaders at the time.
“KPK’s answer was simple ‘postpone [the investigation] if it’s from the police’,” Dahnil recounted. “It is always framed with the words ‘KPK must synergize with the police.”
However, Dahnil Anzar still believes that there still are courageous investigators within the KPK and hopes that the Indonesialeaks findings are followed-up by KPK.
