Jokowi: Indonesia Needs Youth to Face Global Competition

TEMPO.CO, Bogor - President Joko ‘Jokowi’ Widodo said Indonesia needs the young generation to face the global competition. He called all young people to unite to achieve victory.
Jokowi believed solidarity was the key to success. “Otherwise, it is disastrous,” said the President before leaders of student organizations and religious units in Grand Mulya Resort, Bogor, Wednesday, October 10.
The President recalled the success in the 2018 Asian Games at which Indonesia bagged 31 gold medals and ranked the fourth. The public support for Indonesian athletes was one of the success determinants.
Jokowi said people at that time did not question from where the athletes came. “No one thinks what tribe the badminton player from or his religion. [They] only think for Indonesia, for the red-white flag.”
Therefore, the young generation was urged to recognize and appreciate the diversity in Indonesia. This country, Jokowi added, has numerous tribes, religions, and regional languages and so the heterogeneity must be seen as a grace. Otherwise, Indonesia could not be developed.
Joko Widodo further delivered suggestions to the youth, especially leaders of student organizations and student religious units, to influence their friends to honor every diversity as well as to those who have different views on politics.
President Jokowi then called all the youth to help to spread right information. “Please correct it if there is defamation, hoax news, reproach on social media.”
