Sri Mulyani Asserts Indonesia Not Applying Loan to IMF

Indonesian Finance Minister Sri Mulyani

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Finance Minister Sri Mulyani asserted the 2018 International Monetary Fund and World Bank (IMF-WB) Annual Meeting was not an event to apply for a loan and that Indonesia merely became the host of the meeting.

“No plan to apply for a loan, because IMF is an institution that grants a loan for a country experiencing balance of payment crisis,” Sri Mulyani told reporters in Medan Room, Bali International Convention Center, Nusa Dua, Bali Province, on Monday, October 8.

IMF-World Bank Meeting is slated to take place in Nusa Dua, Bali, starting October 8 to 14, 2018. The meeting brings together finance ministers and central bank governors, members of IMF and World Bank, to talk on the economy and fiscal policy of each country and global. Many parties deemed the Indonesian government would make use of the meeting to apply loans to the World Bank or IMF.

The state treasurer delivered the statement to counter the recent issue circulating among the public that the government plans to demand a loan. “Many people attempt to make this as an issue,” she said.

Sri Mulyani admitted that the Indonesian economy was currently facing many challenges and adjustments. However, the former managing director of the World Bank underlined that Indonesia would not apply for a loan because the fundamental of economic condition was still good.

Sri Mulyani continued to say that Indonesia intended to be the host of IMF-World Bank Annual Meeting as to become the good citizen of the world by offering through economic thinking in a bid to, especially, create a secure world and commonweal.
