TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - West Java Governor Ridwan Kamil plans on transforming Pangandaran Beach into one akin to Hawaii’s Waikiki Beach and Florida Beach.
“I have been to Hawaii several times. I think we can [do this] as long as we follow the pattern of our design and the people abide by the rules. We have to upgrade [ourselves] from common planning,” he said in Bandung on Monday, October 8, 2018.
Ridwan said he had been in touch with the Pangandaran regent on this matter.
Ridwan also uploaded the plan’s concept onto his Instagram account, in which he compared Pangandaran Beach to the Waikiki Beach and the pedestrian area on Miami Beach in Florida.

“Whatever is good in this world, we will take it as an example, we will emulate that,” he said, adding that the concept had yet to be released as it was still in progress.
Ridwan said the budget for the planned project, which is probably in the neighborhood of Rp40-65 billion, would stem from both the West Java and the Pangandaran administrations.
Ridwan Kamil was also intent on redesigning Pangandaran’s Nusawiru Airport to boost the tourism sector in the regency. “We will ask investors to run the airport with a transit-oriented development (TOD) concept. A resort will be constructed there,” he said.
