TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - A total of 13 civil organizations would stage a rally against the establishment of the 2018 IMF-World Bank annual meeting. The groups rejected policies issued by the two institutions they considered impartial for the just and proper of Indonesian people.
Until the day before the opening ceremony today, October 8, many fliers spread via online on social media of the 13 organizations. One of which is on Instagram account of Gerak Lawan @geraklawan on Sunday, October 7, saying “Gerak Lawan invites all people living in Bali to join our acts voluntarily.”
Gerak Lawan on its post opened recruitments for volunteers willing to join their acts that would be held in the middle of the annual meeting between October 10-14. The group promoted a hashtag World Beyond Banks.
The IMF-Word Bank meeting is slated to take place on October 8-14 in Nusa Dua, Bali. Through its official page, www.am2018bali.go.id, the civil organization is allowed to carry an act with specific requirements, such as submitting a registration form and attended by no more than 100 demonstrators in the meeting site. Otherwise, the rally can take place in Renon, Denpasar.

Gerak Lawan on its post mentioned 13 organizations listed for the act, namely Solidaritas Perempuan (Women`s Solidarity), Serikat Petani Indonesia (Indonesian Farmers` Union), Yayasan Bina Desa (Village Development Foundation), Yayasan Lembaga Bantuan Hukum Indonesia or YLBHI (Indonesian Legal Aid Foundation), Koalisi Rakyat untuk Keadilan Perikanan or Kiara (The People's Coalition for Fisheries Justice), Koalisi Rakyat untuk Hak Atas Air or Kruha (People's Coalition for the Right to Water), Jaringan Advokasi Tambang or Jatam (Mining Advocacy Network), Kesatuan Nelayan Tradisional Indonesia or KNTI (Indonesian Traditional Fishermen's Union), Serikat Nelayan Indonesia (Indonesian Fishermen's Union), Manikaya Kauci, Indonesia Human Rights Committee for Social Justice (IHCS), and Indonesia for Global Justice.
Solidaritas Perempuan (Women’s Solidarity) spread its brochures saying ‘Stop the banks, save our lives and livelihoods. Berdaulat Tanpa Bank Dunia (United without Bank Dunia)'. During a press conference, Solidaritas Perempuan coordinator Dinda Nuur Annisaa Yura said the increasing economic inequality and poverty could not be separated from the role of IMF and World Bank that had trapped Indonesia.
Meanwhile, head of Task Force 2018 IMF-World Bank Annual Meeting Peter Jacobs said the event is a great rare chance for Indonesia to boost the economy, promote tourism, art, and traditional crafts to more than 30,000 delegates expected to join the meeting.
