West Sumatrans know very well the difficulties and life sufferings felt by survivors of a natural disaster since Padang, in West Sumatra, was once struck by an equally devastating earthquake on September 30, 2009.
At the time, a magnitude 7.6 earthquake destroyed numerous structures, public facilities, houses, and the telecommunication in West Sumatra. Official reports show that 1,195 people died in the disaster.
West Sumatra Deputy Governor Nasrul Abit said that the natural disaster's survivors mainly need logistic aids. Therefore, the West Sumatrans gathered readily-consumed rendang and Rp 1 billion aid for the people of Central Sulawesi.
