TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas) announced they successfully retrieved the body of South Korean paragliding athlete Dong Jin Lee from the rubbles of the Roa-Roa Hotel, Palu, today. 

Don Jing Lee is one of the seven athletes that died in the earthquake that hit Palu, Central Sulawesi. 

“We received information regarding the body of South Korean paragliding athlete Dong Jin Lee that was discovered this noon,” said Wahyu Yudha, Chairman of Paragliding Indonesia at Bogor, Thursday, October 4. 

The seven paragliding athletes that perished during the devastating earthquake are Ardi Kurniawan, Petra Mandagi, Gleen Mononutu, Reza Kambey, Franky Kowaas, Fahmi Malamg, and Dong Jin Lee. Three crews of the Palu Nomoni 2018 paragliding event also died in the earthquake. 

According to Yudha, the body of the South Korean athlete will be cremated in Palu under the requests of his family. ”This is the request of the family that has wholeheartedly accepted the fact. We will cremate him in Palu,” said Yudha.

The cross-country Palu Nomoni 2018 championship is the first time the event was held in conjunction with the Festival Pesona Palu Nomoni 2018 that was participated by a number of athletes from Indonesia, Singapore, South Korea, and Belgium.
