TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) noted there was a 0.18 percent deflation in September 2018 compared to the previous month. Nevertheless, some commodity groups are still experiencing price hikes albeit with a thin margin.

"Rice prices are up 0.9 percent. But because the increase is less than one percent, we don’t highlight it as it only has 0.01 percent impact on inflation," BPS chief Suhariyanto said here on Monday, October 1.

Based on their analysis in 82 cities, the BPS said that most commodity prices declined in September, leading to the 0.18 percent deflation. The Consumer Price Index thus slipped from 134.07 in August to 133.83 in September.

With September's deflation, the year-to-date inflation rate dropped to 1.94 percent. Meanwhile, the year-on-year inflation is 2.88 percent.

With Bulog's rice stock volume at some 2.4 million tons, Suhariyanto believes that rice prices will remain stable.
