18 Countries Offer Humanitarian Aid for Palu Quake Survivors

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Coordinating Minister for Political, Law, and Security Affairs Wiranto said there were 18 countries that had offered humanitarian aid to help victims of the magnitude 7.4 earthquake in Donggala and the tsunami in Palu, Central Sulawesi. 

“Eighteen countries have offered humanitarian aid to assist disaster mitigation in Palu,” Wiranto told a press conference at his office today.

Among the 18 countries are the United States, France, Czech, Swiss, Norway, Hungary, Turkey, European Union countries, Australia, South Korea and Saudi Arabia. The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) has also offered help. 

According to Wiranto, President Joko “Jokowi” Widodo had decided to accept the humanitarian aid to further ease the suffering of the quake survivors in Donggala and Palu.

President Jokowi, who has visited the affected regions in Palu, said the areas were still in a state of emergency. Rescue attempts are currently hampered by the fact that heavy machinery could not reach several regions in Palu.
