TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - The Garut Natural Resources Conservation Agency (BKSDA) announced that the wildfire engulfing Mount Guntur in West Java had been put out since Thursday evening.
Head of Garut’s region V BKSDA Purwanto said that his team is currently continuing efforts to extinguish the fires over several of the mountain’s area. “Our members are still extinguishing the fire. It was managed to be put out in the afternoon,” he said.

Mount Guntur’s pine tree forest and reeds area were engulfed in fire twice on Wednesday evening and Thursday but was immediately handled by local residents, firemen, and BKSDA members, to prevent it from spreading to a larger area.
However, Purwanto is unable to predict the areas that were affected by the fire. “We will map out the areas affected by the fire after the team is done putting out the fire,” said Purwanto.
BKDSA’s initial hypothesis suggests that the fire in Mount Guntur was manmade since the area scorched by the fire was a forbidden location for people to enter. “We are yet to confirm how the fire started. Whether the perpetrator intentionally did it or whether it was an accident,” he revealed.
