TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - There are many fake and dangerous Android applications. This Google mobile device operating system is one of the most used software in the world with more than two billion active devices.
“We found applications that can be used to spy on people by tracking locations, reading contacts, using cameras, even secretly making phone calls,” said Top10VPN Research Head Simon Migliano, as reported by the Top10VPN page.
Top10VPN is a consumer advice center in London, England, which conducted studies and had found more than 30 malicious applications.
One of the examples is Judy’s malware when 36,5 million Android devices were feared to be infected by 41 applications. However, after that, the Google Play Store security experts again warned the Android users about the risks caused by dozens of fake applications, after it was done last year.
A total of 32 applications carry risks such as malware, scams, adware, and privacy issues. Some Android applications were found asking for excessive permission to spy on victims, access the tracking locations, and use the camera covertly.
By doing so, the fake Android applications can also read the information about user contacts, and secretly make phone calls. One of the most popular fake applications is masquerading as a Fortnite game.
“We found applications that can access your camera, track your location, monitor your calls, read your contacts and more. There are few legitimate applications in any form because more than 40 percents are adware or hidden scams,” said Migliano.
