TEMPO.CO, Magetan - The spokesperson of Mount Lawu Forest management Ds Arifin stated that the climbing route through Cemorokandang and Candi Cetho in the Central Java region had already been opened. However, the Cemorosewu route in Magetan, East Java, was still closed until Friday, Sept. 13.
Ds Arifin could not confirm when will the route be reopened. “Currently, a frequent storm occurs [in the area] that can endanger the climbers if they are desperate to climb the mountain,” he said, in Magetan, Friday, September 13.
He stated the route that was closed due to the potential of the forest fire was declared safe a few days ago. The fire was blazed at area 41 of Jogorogo in Ngawi, and the 5th post near the climbing route through Candi Cetho, Karanganyar, Central Java.
The official of Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) Magetan, Fery Yoga Saputra, confirmed that Mt. Lawu management had not issued an official letter to open the climbing route via Cemoro Sewu.
Fery said that the Mount Lawu climbing route will be reopened after the situation is considered safe. Therefore, joint officers are standby at the Cemoro Sewu post.
