TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Finance Minister Sri Mulyani has urged entrepreneurs to report to her if they encounter violations or unethical behaviors from tax or customs officers. She firmly stated that she would immediately remove the said individuals from their positions if proven guilty.
“Entrepreneurs, if you have complaints or have been carelessly treated, please report to us, I will respond to that and immediately terminate them from their positions,” Sri Mulyani told a seminar at the Kempinski Hotel Ballroom in Central Jakarta on Friday, September 14.
The minister said that her stance reflected the government’s commitment to a continued improvement of its tax and excise collection strategy.

Furthermore, Sri Mulyani stated that the government’s tax income up to September 2018 has grown by 16.5 percent, which is an improvement compared to 2017 that only rose by 9.5 percent. Meanwhile, the tax growth in 2016 was a mere 1.8 percent.
However, Sri Mulyani said that the latest tax income report is still considered insignificant considering the ratio between the GDP and tax is still under 12 percent, especially when compared to neighboring countries, such as Singapore and Malaysia, that see a tax income-to-GDP ratio of above 16 percent.
