TEMPO.CO, Nusa Dua - The Customs and Excise Directorate General’s acting technical director and excise facilities, Nugroho Wahyu Widodo, said that the volume of cigarette sales in the first half of 2018 fell 5.5 percent.
As of June, 272 billion cigarettes were sold, down from June 2017’s 288 billion.
Nugraha said the statistics came from the national health survey, and that AC Nielsen’s research also showed similar results.
“It is said that cigarette sales dropped significantly,” he said in Nusa Dua on Friday, September 14.

He remarked that the decline was proof that the number of smokers has also tumbled.
Nugroho also said that although cigarette duty contribute greatly to the state’s revenue, the government is committed to controlling the number of consumers.
