TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Democrat Party deputy secretary general Andi Arief revealed that presidential hopeful Prabowo Subianto and Democrat Party chairman Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono (SBY) are set to hold a meeting to discuss the 2019 presidential election.
“The meeting is between the presidential candidate and SBY as his campaign advisor,” said Arief in text message Tempo received today, Sept. 12.
The meeting will be held at SBY’s house in South Jakarta at 7 p.m. and will also be attended by vice presidential hopeful Sandiaga Uno.
Arief said that the coalition will discuss issues regarding the preparation of the legislative and presidential election held simultaneously next year. Prabowo’s coalition consists of Gerindra Party, Democrat Party, the Prosperous Justice Party (PKS), and the National Mandate Party (PAN).
He also acknowledged the public debates and difference of opinions coming from coalition members but made aware that coalition party members will be united after September 23 when the presidential election campaign period commences.
The Prabowo coalition has set a periodic meeting schedule in terms of election issues. Arief denied that the meetings aimed to address the polemic regarding issues of disloyalty that the Democrat Party is currently being accused of.
