TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - Following the release of the ABS version of Royal Enfield Himalayan in the Indian market, Royal Enfield Indonesia Country Manager Irvino Edwardly said that the company is open to the possibility of introducing it to the Indonesian market.

Although, Irvino admits that the company would study it further and see the motorcycle’s potential market in Indonesia. “We’ll have to observe the market first. What the potential the ABS version has in the Indonesian market. We would certainly sell it here if the market demands it,” said Irvino on Sunday, September 9.

The Royal Enfield Himalayan, that boasts a classic adventure-look, has its own niche market in Indonesia, with the likes of the Kawasaki Versys and Honda CRF250 as its direct competitors. However, Royal Enfield not only faces tough competition in the form of its two main competitors but also Indonesia’s luxury item tax for motorcycle engines above 250 CC.

The tax will cause Himalayan’s selling price to Rp95.4 million on the road in Jakarta, while competitors are currently being sold in the range of Rp60 million to Rp70 million.

Royal Enfield Himalayan’s upside compared to its direct competitors in the Indonesian market is that the Himalayan is powered by an air-cooled 411CC single cylinder engine configuration that produces 24 horsepower at 6,500 RPM with a punchy 32 NM torque at a lower RPM.
