South Korea Praises Jokowi for Successful Asian Games

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta - South Korean businesses praised President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo for Indonesia's success in organizing the 2018 Asian Games in Jakarta and Palembang last month.

Jokowi was in South Korea for a work visit, and today he met with business actors at the Berkeley Suite of Hotel Lotte in Seoul.

Posco CEO Choi Jeong-woo particularly lauded Jokowi for watching the closing ceremony with the people of Lombok who were affected by August's earthquake. Jokowi was in Lombok that day to evaluate the recovery and rehabilitation process of public facilities and people's homes.

Another Posco director, Oh-Joon Kwon, congratulated Indonesian athletes for bagging 31 gold medals, placing Indonesia as the 4th place winner of Asia's biggest sporting event.

In addition to the directors of Posco, President Jokowi also met with CJ Group chairman Kyung-shik Sohn, Lotte Group's vice chairman Kag-gyu Hwang, and Hyundai Motor Company's VP, Chung Eui-sun.

President Jokowi was accompanied by Coordinating Minister for Politics, Law, and Security Wiranto; Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi; and Industry Minister Airlangga Hartarto.

There were also the BKPM chief Thomas Trikasih Lembong, Bekraf head Triawan Munaf, Cabinet Secretary Pramono Anung, and the Indonesian Ambassador to South Korea, Umar Hadi.
